Description

It took some cajoling but I was able to bring Clavius out from behind the shadows of a waxing gibbous moon. Clavius, near bottom of image, is the second largest crater on the visible near side of the Moon. It appears to have an oblong shape due to its location on the Moon's southern limb.

Appearing on the floor of Clavius are a number of craters forming an arc. These craters are identified from largest to smallest as Clavius D, C, N, J and JA. The crater Maginus lies above and to the northeast of Clavius.
