Description

My astro imaging buddies persuaded me to go out to a dark site to try imaging and try out our large refractors doing visual  last night. The moon was close to 100 percent, but the seeing was really good. I have two guide cameras. An Asi120 and an Asi290. I usually go with the 290 because it is more sensitive. I shot my first 30 images using the 290, but as the moon rose higher the the stars became so blown out that I couldn’t turn down the gain enough for guiding to function. As soon as I switched to the 120 it seemed to work great. I threw away 16 frames but still got a little bit of star elongation. M13 was also getting really low on the horizon which also can mess with guiding and seeing. I have avoided doing any astro imaging when the moon is out because I don’t own any filters, but apparently imaging can still work with brighter targets without them.

I used a .77x reducer and shot 61 frames at 60 seconds each. I threw away 16 frames because of bad guiding.
