Description

This is the result of an amazing night at a bortle 2 dark site.  I managed just over 4.5hrs of LRGB on NGC 7331/Stephen's Quintet after the moon set.  To me, this is my best image yet, and I look foreword to improving.  It was amazing getting such good data while I was able to have my son with me under such amazing darkness, I could see his interest in astronomy growing exponentially while I pointed out the Milky Way, and the Persieds meteor shower rained above.  To me, that's priceless.  Just a perfect night.  I really couldn't ask for more of a single night.  Thank you Ron for being so kind as to let my family and I let us use your field as if it were mine.  It's those experiences you have that money can't describe or compare in any way.  I don't care if I don't get a top pick or anything for this image, to me it was one of the best experiences I've ever had being in this hobby and that's just priceless!  I hope you enjoy even half as much as I!

Description: This is just the de-noised version of the image. An hour or so after uploading the original, my hard drive crashed and I lost everything except the image uploaded here. I originally processed it in APP, and there is no de-noise tool as of yet. Since then, I've decided to give Pixinsight a try, so I loaded up the full res jpeg and ran a de-noise process which seemed to do a decent job.

Title: 2022 version with new luminance

Description: If you check out the original image, you’ll see the story that goes with it where I lost the raw data after a HD crash. Well this year my friend Ron thought it might be a good idea for him to try and shoot some C 11 luminance on either NGC 7331 or the quintet for me to combine with my original image, but had a couple projects to finish first. In the meantime I figured I should try a new luminance myself, since I upgraded my luminance filter from the ZWO, to the Astronomik L3 luminance which greatly reduces star bloat with my scope. So using the original image from last year as an RGB image, I then gathered a new luminance from my parents bortle 4 home when the moon wasn’t out, and used it as a luminance for the original image. I was blown away by the increase in details, and it almost makes me feel guilty that the original was picked for August 2021s APOM on Astrospheric. It makes me wonder if the original data was taken under seeing that much worse, or if it was simply because I didn’t know all the processing tricks back then. It’s a shame I’ll never find out, but I’m quite happy with this improvement none the less!
