Description

The Horsehead nebula is 1400 light years distant in the Orion molecular cloud.    Ionized hydrogen from the star Sigma Orionis lights up the red color in the nebula.    Magnetic field lines are visible in the gas as vertical arcs.    The nebula itself is composed of gas and dust.  Below the nebula and to the left, a nice reflection nebula (NGC 2023) colors the field blue.    Below that nebula to the edge of the field is a portion of the flame nebul (NGC 2024).    The whole area is a star forming region, with several young stars visible in the immediate vicinity of the Horsehead's structure.

Description: Replaced all older subs with 5x as many newer subs. SPCC, BXT, NXT, and GHS processing. I only kept the original image to remind me of how processing has changed over the years since the original image. I also kept a larger (full frame) image from the 183mcPro as the colors are nicer. The image does zoom fairly well however. Still not satisfied with the new PSF, but that's a work in progress after circularizing the cable routing over the aperture.
