Description

NGC6888 / Sh2-105 (CYG) The Crescent Nebula - Where is my mind …

Summer nights aren’t astronomically dark, but I couldn’t resist in going after the crown jewel in Cygnus, the Crescent Nebula. Captured in Ha and Oiii, just before the moon glow would start to wash out the Oiii. A revisit of this DSO from year ago but this time with a bit more experience. It’s captured and processed in HOO, with a squeeze of rgb-like colours. Surprisingly, there is a lot more Oiii in the surrounding area, instead of only the veiled shell that surrounds the crescent.
Two images, a full version and a cropped (1/2), showing the crescent up close.
Happy to see the detail on the Oiii outflow around the crescent, and the details of the supernova remnant. It’s as if you can see the turmoil whirling around.

Happy with the outcome of 11 Hours of data. Although my processing has advanced over the last year, I still feel that this image could’ve been brought to a higher level, maybe I’m setting my quality bar too high (or not high enough). Anyway … true to my life’s principle: by reaching for the impossible, we achieve the improbable. Glad with what I’ve achieved on this one … so far …

Clear Skies everybody! 🤩✨🔭
