Description

M1 (Messier 1), AKA The Crab nebula, is the interstellar remnant of a massive supernova explosion observed by Chinese Astronomers in the year 1054. Chinese Astronomers and scholars wrote that the light from the supernova could be observed even during daytime for weeks. Located in the constellation of Taurus in the Perseus Arm of the Milky Way, it is 6,500 light years from Earth. Since the 1054 Supernova event, it has continued to expand by roughly 1,500 kilometres per second. Located at the centre of the Crab nebula lies a Pulsar, a neutron star estimated to be twenty five to thirty kilometres across that spins 30+ times per second, in doing so, it keeps incredibly accurate time as it pulses radiation between gamma rays and radio waves.
