Description

For this one, I decided to point my camera at a random part of the cygnus region. I've tried to capture this region as a whole, but my narrowband filters don't fill the whole image circle when using wide angle lenses, hence that's not possible without mosaicing. After the first shot, I noticed that the Crescent nebula was in frame and that made me really happy.

I also learned some new processing and editing techniques, specifically using the narrowband normalization script by Mike Cranfield (cosmicphotons(dot)com). I've never been able to properly bring out the OIII Signal until I used that, and it's just amazing. It makes me excited to also go back and edit some of my old images in similar fashion.

The night was not without it's own challenges though. From me forgetting to turn on the dew heater on my main lens, to my guide scope fogging up in the middle of the session which I didn't expect, and to top everything off, clouds rolling in. I was only able to get 38minutes of usable data.

I also didn't crop this one, because I didn't want to lose any nebulosity along the edges, even though the corners look messed up.
