Description

NGC 5396 (=NGC 5375) is a rarely imaged small galaxy in Canes Venatici.

The core has an interesting form. I do not recall seeing anything like that in other galaxies.

Also there is a large number of tiny background galaxies in this region of the sky.

Revision B is a comparison with my last year attempt. Back then I've just started with astrophotography and I was still learning a lot. I believed that 4 hours was a long exposure But NGC 5396 proved to me that a longer exposure time is required to image the deep space. Still it was a joy to actually get an image of a distant faint galaxy far far away!

The 681 unguided exposures 120 seconds each for the current image have been gathered in March and April 2020.

Thanks for looking,

Vitali

Description: This is an annotated image, where more than 150 galaxies are marked. First I've used the HyperLEDA database with PixInsight AnnotateImage script. When available, the galaxy name contains the visual magnitude and type of the galaxy. However the HypedLEDA data still did not contain many galaxies. So I went on a galaxy hunt and marked remaining galaxies, which I could find, with ???.
