Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a planetary nebula located 22,000 light years away in the constellation of Camelopardis at a declination of +60 degrees.  It is a magnitude 16 PN which spans 14 arc-seconds in our apparent view.  This corresponds to the typical PN diameter of 2 light years.  This object is a member of the Kohoutek PN catalog.

This PN is much further away than most, which is why it looks so small to us.  Like many PN, the outer rim is stronger in HII while the inner section is stronger in OIII. There is a faint outer HII halo which extends from lower left to upper right.  It is too far away for the faint progenitor star to be seen.

The PN is similar in color and structure to the famous Ring Nebula, M57, although it is 10x further away and almost 10x smaller.
