Description

At 550 light-years from Earth, and in the constellation of Cassiopeia, lies IC63, a stunning and slightly eerie nebula. Known as the 'Ghost or Phantom of Cassiopeia', IC63 is being shaped by radiation from its nearby, unpredictable variable star, Gamma Cassiopeia, which is slowly eroding away the ghostly cloud of dust and gas.

IC63 is considered difficult to image due to its proximity to Gamma Cassiopeia (an eruptive variable star), whose apparent magnitude changes irregularly between +1.6 and +3.0. Imaged from home on February 26, 2023 in Ha (656nm).
