North is to the right in this image - it is a close up of the western "wall" of NGC 2174 - the "Monkey Head" nebula. NGC 2174 is also known as Sh2-252 and LBN 854. It is an emission nebula structure with most of the Ionization energy coming from the star HD 42088. Its distance is about 5,700 light years distant. NGC 2174 and its immediate surrounds hosts five star clusters - three of which are in the field of this image. The are designated as Sh2-252 A, C, and E. There are also dark nebula from the Dobashi catalog in this image field. These objects, information, and some of the brighter stars are identified in the website annotated image (zoomable).

A portion of my image field was also taken by HST in 2001. The HST image is optical wavelength bands. (a later one was done by HST in near IR - revealing many hidden stars and structures; JWST also did this image in multiple IR bands with has remarkably improved detail). Image crop of JT (me) is shown below for comparison purposes. As could be expected, HST got a more detailed image, but the JT image does show some of the HST structures.

Submitted The date and time when you submitted this image for IOTD/TP consideration.	...
Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
