Description

Where do I start…  I’ve always loved this huge region with M4 and tried several times over the past 3 years to capture but was never successful.  I have many smallish mosaic panels which just didn’t blend together well.  (I can save a ton of disc space by dumping those.)   Uwe @Uwe Deutermann blew me away with the FOV of his new ASKAR400 with the ASI6200MM.  I bought the ASKAR300 and 6200 with the intention of getting this area and then also the Sagittarius star fields which I also love. (I do have a successful 6 panel mosaic from last year https://www.astrobin.com/rbq6xu/B/).    On a recent road trip through Utah to see friends in Oklahoma and Texas, I took this rig to try for Rho again.  Unfortunately, mostly cloudy nights. Rho was low in the sky, at best 27 degrees, and as so low I had to fight with trees and bushes in the campgrounds.  I ended up with 2 nights of fairly good RGB data, but not enough luminance to consider using.    I know framing is not great, but I planned on a 2 panel mosaic to get some of the beautiful dark flowing veins but got just enough for this panel.  Now too low in the sky…oh well there’s always next year.

If you want to learn more about the objects in this panel, please visit Gary Imm's @Gary Imm great description of this area here https://www.astrobin.com/by580c/.

PS Isn’t M4 a beauty!  No special processing.  Got to love the resolution of this rig at 1.5 drizzle.   CS john
