We had a major monsoon storm on the 14th that dropped 1.5" of rain in less than an hour with 60+ MPH winds. I was fortunate to not suffer any damage but business will be very good for roofing repair and tree removal services in my neighborhood. Surprisingly, the night of the 15th cleared unexpectedly so I did a quick imaging session. Unfortunately, in my haste I made all kinds of rookie mistakes with my rotation being 90 degrees off and forgetting to dither.

The image framing was suboptimal and noise was terrible. I pushed noise reduction pretty hard to salvage as much as I could. If the weather ever clears I want to give this target another shot without the boneheaded mistakes and enough time to do it justice. Oh well, with this years crazy monsoon you take whatever you can get.

Title: LDN 1235, The Shark Nebula - Revised Processing

Description: I thought I'd try some new processing techniques to try and extract more detail and increase the FOV a bit. If the weather ever clears I definitely want to reimage this target to frame it better and more importantly, remember to dither. After this imaging goof, I can really appreciate how dithering helps manage noise.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
