Description

I decided to chase another rarely imaged object and settled on Weinberger 1-3 (PN G163.1-00.8, PK 163-00.1) after seeing the recent image by @Peter Goodhew. This is a planetary nebula in Auriga which is approximately 8800 light years distant. The faint smudge is LEDA 16272. a galaxy that is 325 million light years away. I did try to capture some of the faint Oiii signal that @Jerry Yesavage captured in his image of this target but the combination of the bright moon and limitations of my aperture seemed to thwart my attempt.

I think this is the 3rd image of this target posted to Astrobin and it's claim to fame is probably limited to it's faintness and obscurity. This target didn't even make the cut for Gary Imm's compendium so that's pretty telling in and of itself.
