Description

This is a waining quarter moon, seen one week after a full moon and one week before a new moon. You can see that it is sunset over the Apennine mountains (named after the Apennine mountains in Italy) which were formed nearly 4 billion years ago when the Imbrium basin was blasted out. The Apennines stretch out over 370 miles and include more than 3000 peaks; the tallest of these mountain peaks is 18,000 feet!
Enjoy!
