Description

I decided to try another challenging target and went for CTB 1. As I was watching my individual subs, I appreciated just how dim this target is since I saw absolutely nothing on the screen. Even after stacking, a lot of creative stretching was needed to coax out details of the nebulosity. The ASIAIR Plus really came through with an accurate plate solve for this nearly invisible object.

I still need to work on this one some more as its not where I want it. One major flaw is the stars - it seems as if I bumped something out of whack on my imaging train as the stars look terrible. Hopefully I can diagnose the issue and reshoot my RGB to improve this major issue.

On a positive note, I did learn some new techniques for my workflow that included elongated star repair that I picked up from a Cloudy Nights post. This helped salvage things a bit. Next, I used Pixinsight to add my stars into the starless HOO image using a pixelmath process I found on James Lamb's YouTube channel. This method works well and should be more reproducible versus my previous use of Photoshop to add my stars to the image.

Title: CTB 1 - LBN 576 in HOO - Revised Star Processing

Description: I decided to try another star processing technique detailed on Craig Calvert's YouTube channel. His method definitely helped round out some of the stubborn stars a bit more at the expense of some ringing around the brighter stars. That might be my next processing learning expedition.

Description: Arizona skies are clouded over for the foreseeable future. As a result, I'm playing with old data trying to improve my processing techniques. The stretches are toned down a bit and the stars are much tighter thanks to BlurXterminator.
