Description

I figured what's another M 101 + SN 2023 ixf. I imaged M 101 in April so the recent image makes a nice comparison with the supernova version. I cheated a bit and recycled my old RGB data for the supernova shot. I did try to process the images so that they were as close as possible. This proved to be difficult because the supernova luminance data was captured from a Bortle 4 dark site versus the pre-supernova image that was shot from my Bortle 5 backyard.

The supernova is pretty impressive as it was evident even with a 5 second focusing sub. This was a fun imaging session with elmiko and a couple of other intrepid members of our Picket Post group. Conditions were perfect and I'm glad I decided to switch targets and capture this event.
