Description

Gum 16: The Vela Supernova Region

I shot this back in June this year over two nights for the first time. I was not expecting to fit much of the region in my image, but I am surprised at how much I did manage to include.

I used my Optolong L-eXtreme to really isolate the OIII structures so I could bring them out in post. I edited this image in HOO palette as well to further emphasize the vast amount of different colours that are in the supernova remnant.

Also in this image is NGC 2736, the Pencil Nebula. Unforutnately I couldn't bring out much Ha signal in it, but when I am able to image it again next year, I definitely will spend a fair amount of imaging time on it. It is quite small compared to the rest of the region, but I like how I included it as a comparison.

One day I would like to focus on a specific region of this target. Not sure whereabouts as there are so many interesting loops and filaments. The choice will definitely be hard that's for sure!
