Sharpless 174 is located in Cepheus at a distance of about 1000 light years. It is an ancient planetary nebula and ranks as the most northern Sharpless object. The nebula's white dwarf star appears offset and can be found in the image as a blue star within the OIII area (see attached revision showing the visual location of the white dwarf - under my tick marks or the marked green label "PK120+18.1"). The positioning of the white dwarf is linked to the interaction of the nebula with surrounding interstellar medium.

This is a faint object with the stronger signal in Ha, a slightly lesser signal in SII and is somewhat faint in OIII (see revisions for starless images). There is quite a lot of surrounding IFN likely due to the nebula's location near the Polaris IFN complexes. Most details within the nebula were from the abundant amount of Ha acquired. This allowed the faint structures within the "crown" to be highlighted as well as the Ha "streamers" visible to the right of the nebula. The Lum data provided some cloud-like details in the surrounding area especially just below the nebula.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
