Description

This small HII region is located 30,000 light years away in the constellation of Cepheus at a declination of +56 degrees.  It spans 1.4 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 12 light years.

Despite having the designation of Abell 77, this object is not a PN.   It is too big for a PN, which are typically 1-2 light years in diameter.  Also, it doesn’t look like a PN.  Edges of PN are rounded, consistent with how they are formed.

This object reminds me of other similar HII regions such as Sh2-211, which is a similar diameter and distance away from us.
